I couldn't make this stuff up...

Last night at church two of the three Webblett girls (we call them that because they are triplets and their last name is Webb) brought me pictures that they had drawn on the back of their school crossword searches. (This makes me think that they didn't do their work and drew pics for me instead! Only 1/2 of the puzzles were done...opps!).

Anyways, the picture from Gracie had swans, her own made up word search, various little people with heart or star shaped heads, a crying face, and spiderman. By the swan, she had written 'I love Mrs. Leah. She's like a butiful swaun'. The words in the word search were 'Iloveyou', 'UloveMe', 'Man', 'Are', and 'One'. Around the crying face she had written 'Almost cried because I missed u'! At the bottom it read 'S. It's for the words: She's, Swaun, and Spiderman'.

The picture from Jacqueline also had spiderman, a huge S, 'Everyone loves you!!', 'Go Ms. Leah!', and 'I love Ms. Leah'. There was also a spider in a web in the corner.

Now, I asked the girls, 'Um, what's with Spiderman all over my pictures?!?'. They told me that they meant for it to say Spiderwoman. I said 'Yeah, but why am I Spiderwoman'? And Gracie held up her hand in the sign for 'I love You' and said, 'You're Spiderwoman because you shoot love out of your arms, like Spiderman shoots webs out of his'.

If this wasn't enough to get me all teared up, I asked Gracie 'This says you almost cried today. Is that true?' She said 'Yeah, I was at my cubby and I got to missing you real bad so I started crying a little but I stopped it'.

Sometimes I wonder if what I'm doing is really making that much of a difference. I worry if the kids know how much they mean to me, or if I'm impacting them with the grace of Jesus even when they aren't at church. I wonder if all that we do and are at Long's Chapel goes flyin right out of their heads the moment they get in the car.

It's moments like these that God uses to remind me that all of those worries are silly... I'm doing just fine.

Me and the Webbletts at Fall Festival.
Jacqueline is on my lap, Gracie is beside me, and Cathrine is Minnie Mouse (and a super cute one at that).

this life is ours for the taking...

Tryin not to be overwhelmed, as our schedule gets crazier by the second. Coming up in the next 4 months alone we have Fall Festival at church, of which David is an intricate part, Davids 9 day bear hunting trip, my trip to NYC with Ashley, baby Lily Scout (our niece) will be born, Thanksgiving, Christmas, which comes with an insane schedule for both of us, a new year, two more trips to Greensboro for Kenya prep, and Kenya itself. And of course with all of these things comes massive ammounts of planning and preparation. Plus, you have regular 'life' that you live during all the 'planning' for the 'big events'. Those are the times when you're really living anyways...

These times may be crazy, but we love each other and we love our little family (consisting of David, Leah, Ruby, Toots, and Kujo). We love our new home, we love our church, we love our Jesus, and we love our life.

Let's pray we can keep it all together during the next 4 months of craziness!

Happy Birthday Dinks!

mama 2's birthday is exactly 7 days after mine. i met up with her and pop, along with all four girls (my mama included, of course) for birthday lunch at the country club (oo-la-la!). i cherish these times with my family more than you can imagine.

i love when pop and two have all 4 girls in one picture!

mmm, bonfire!

last weekend we had the Chiteas (and a friend of caleb's) over for a cookout. we finally got to use our awesome backyard creekside cookout paradise! it was so chilly and it felt great to snuggle up by the fire in a hooded sweatshirt (how i missed you!!) and drink hot chocolate while the kids ran around like complete insano banchees!! david and i agreed, it was our favorite night in our new home since we moved in! i wish i had taken more pics, but it was so relaxing and wonderful to be with not only caleb and megs but their parents too.

this started as me and megan snuggling in the hammock. then the boys decided to scare us, and they succeded, so their punishment was to snuggle with us! then, ruby, of course, decided she wanted in on the action too:

this is julie, caleb and megans mom. she is so beautiful and i love spending time with her :)

of course, megs tried to steal toots but had to settle for lots of hugs and squeezes.

*can't get You out of my head*

at SNL this weekend, I was riveted by one song in particular. i love how a song or a lyric or a melody can swell up inside of me and take over all the things i want to say but don't know how. sometimes, i feel like i have so many thoughts, so much emotion, it almost chokes me and i can't say a word. it sits in my throat and on my chest and i want to sing out but the words refuse to form. then a song, more often than not in Worship, swoops in and takes away the pressure and the twisted tounge that resides in my mouth and frees me to say exactly what i want the world to hear. exactly what i want my Savior to hear. this song did just that this weekend. i am so full of love for the blessings that have been bestowed upon me, and for this incredible journey that God has placed me on, i just want to shout it from the top of the world.

my favorite line is '...all of a sudden i am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory'
...wow. incredible.

i also love what one guy had to say about this song...he had my thoughts exactly, as the song completely took me by surprise:

'I’ve been listening to the song How He Loves Us all day. Powerful song. It’s one of those songs where you start air drumming so hard that you break your air drum sticks on the side of your air snare because you’re just going nuts.

It’s a pretty deep and fairly “wordy” song as well. Definitely not a song full of fluff. However, in the second verse there is a line that at first listen sounds kind of ridiculous.

The line is this… “So Heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss…”

Awkward…

Anyway, the first time you hear the line you’re kind of turned off by it. But at least for me, the more I hear it the more deeply it resonates with me.

It’s the type of line that is just so raw and messy, but the type of line that conjures up beautiful images of a father swooping down to pick up his child and plant the biggest wettest, most loving kiss on their cheek.

As big and powerful as God is, He’s also that loving and compassionate and willing to swoop down and plant a “sloppy wet kiss” on his children.

'He is jealous for me,
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden,
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

And oh, how He loves us so,
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us so.

We are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
So Heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss,
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets,
When I think about, the way…

And, Oh how He loves us so,
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us so.

Well, I thought about You the day Stephen died,
And You met me between my breaking.
I know that I still love You, God, despite the agony.
…They want to tell me You’re cruel,
But if Stephen could sing, he’d say it’s not true, cause…

He loves us.
Woah, He loves us.'

'What animal is a Google?'

I love this for many, many reasons. I love that he talks just like all my Kenyan friends do...the English is the same. The way he says 'pick-chaa' is how all the children would ask us to take their picture. I love Jon's college prep talk, and I really love that he said 'Where was this Google all this time?'

seriously.

i can not take any more vampires. it's vampires every where you look. movies. tv. books...ahh! i can't handle it! what is the big deal with vampires? they are spooky and yucky and creepy and not uplifting. at all. they are creatures that survive on the death of others. gross! who wants that? who feels encouraged by blood sucking murderers? not me. i'll take francine rivers or c.s. lewis any day. matter of fact, give me c.s. lewis or give me death!!!

um, ok. that may be a little extreme. but i mean buisness. who do i need to speak with to get vampires out of pop culture?!?! give me a name and i'll make the call. i'm officially calling for an end to vampire mania.

Birthday Month (AKA: Longest Post Ever...)

So, if you know me at all you know that I LOVE to celebrate my Birthday (see how I even capitalize it? It's that special...). Everyone gives me a hard time because I refer to it as my Birthday Month, and I stretch it out as long as is humanly possible. When October 1st hits I get so sad because the month long extravaganza is officially over. This year, we celebrated all month as usual. Here are some highlights from the Birthday Month Extravaganza!

We decided to have a huge cookout at our new house. Our back yard is incredible with the stream, hammock, swings, barn, firepit, etc. Throw in some chickens and dogs and it's a party paradise. David and I (mostly David) worked so hard to get everything ready, and it ended up monsooning on us! We had the party anyways, and squeezed 25 people into our house...keyword being squeezed. We even did s'mores in the microwave, and it was fun despite the weather!

David and Toots can not WAIT for everyone to arrive:
Avery meets Toots:

Sawyer meets Avery:

Gabby had the kids playing with playdoh on the nice expensive down comforter...soultion? T.V. dinner trays of course...

Anika and her new best friend:

Poor Toots. I did try and prepare her though by letting her know that she was about to be squeezed, squished, snuggled, and terrorized for the next few hours. Here she is as the girls 'baby'. I think they were going to the 'store' for her some baby food at this point::

Finally, I sneaked Toots away from all the kids and let her stay in the bedroom. When I checked on her later this is how I found her...trying to recover:
Lauren Jean, Avery Jean, Heather Dawn & Toots McGee:

Sawyer played at the front door making everyone crack up for a very long time:

He and Salyssa really had fun at the door!

My childhood friends, Lauren, Heather and Brandy. I love that we're still hangin around each other :)

Cake #1:

Justin & Amber:

The Gossets! Our friends from Church:

Ruby partied a little too hard, I think:

Birthday Morning I went and visited Dad...we had cake #2 and it was special to spend time with just us, which we normally don't get to do. (Cake #3 was at Long's Staff Meeting. I think I had cake every 4 hours for 3 days straight...):

For Birthday Lunch I met Mama 2, Aunt Vicki & Mom at Shoney's...I wanted my OWN hot fudge cake! Normally we all share one, but it was my birthday month, and if I wanted to gain 62 pounds, by George, I was gonna!

Normally, I'm all about dressing up and going out for my Birthday Date with David. This year though, much to David's delight, I just wanted to stay home with a pizza and watch a movie in our big 43 acre bed. I ate almost an entire cheese pizza and fell asleep half way thru the movie...sheer perfection!!

Dad & Mom took me out to eat on Tuesday of the Birthday Week since David & I celebrated on Monday.
